Embracing your authenticity at work is like holding the winning card. Seriously, you can't go wrong.

Picture this: you're fully aligned with your natural skills and talents, and you intentionally choose spaces where you can let them shine. That's when you start showing up like the star you are, every single day.

As we stand on the cusp of 2024, I'm not just speaking for myself; I'm advocating for your transformation too. The key to this transformation lies in your authenticity. So, before you dive headlong into a whirlwind of plans and goals for the upcoming year, let's explore strategies to embrace your authenticity and redefine your posture in your professional world.

This is the time of year that we begin to lay the groundwork and set our goals for the next year. But if your goals aren’t rooted in your authentic self, you might end up right where you currently are. That's why so many New Year's resolutions fizzle out before the onset of Spring—they weren't in sync with your authentic self.

So, how do you find this authenticity I'm talking about?

First, you don’t “find” your authenticity, you unveil it! It is already within you. But along the way, societal conditioning may have nudged you to conform, adapt, or shrink to fit into your professional environment. This becomes your armor, but remember, armors belong on battlefields, not in your career—unless you're in the military or security services.

Now, you might be wondering how authenticity impacts your career. The truth is, when you show up authentically at work, you become a magnet for opportunities. You attract people who resonate with your authenticity, and these connections can open doors you never thought possible.

Next, it's time to differentiate between your "shoulds" and your "wants." At times, we find ourselves on career paths that were influenced by external factors, even by those who care about and wants the best for us. Whether you entered the accounting field, pursued medical or law school, or embarked on an engineering journey, you might sense an obligation to stay on that path—even if it no longer ignites your passion.

But your career narrative is yours to be written and it is not too late to change or modify your course if your current path no longer aligns with where you want to grow. Change can be intimidating and challenging, but it's a necessary step if you crave something different. Cast aside fear and guilt, and ask yourself, "What does embracing my authenticity in my working world look like?"

Now, here's where it gets exciting. Embracing your authenticity grants you the freedom to be BOLD. This involves crafting your personal brand around your unique authenticity, taking control of your career narratives, leading with a strong focus on making an impact, and forging deeper connections. The best part? You don't have to wait for a massive shift to get started. You can take those initial steps today.

Begin by jotting down the actions that pave the way to your authentic career and life, aligning them with your current level of courage. What gaps exist between your current position and your desired growth? What steps can you take to bridge that gap? Are there skills you need to start honing? Is there someone you can reach out to for support and guidance? Your journey toward authenticity begins with these small yet impactful moves.  One step leads to the next, and before you know it, you're on the path to an extraordinary career—one that brings fulfillment, amplifies your impact, and enhances your income.
