The #1 Blocker to Creating an Impactful Personal Brand
Do you Find yourself going in circles, periodically wrestling with your identity and just quite unsure of who you are, the world and your place in it?
Do you often feel like you are not showing up as your best self in all areas of your life?
Are you feeling frustrated and downright tired of constantly being overlooked and feeling undervalued in your professional and personal arenas?
Believe me you are not alone.
Our/Your purpose, in simple terms, is to create progress for humanity, as defined by the Creator Himself - GOD, whether it be on a micro or macro level. You are purpose. Your gifts and talents are part of His Master Plan. We all have a part in His Master Plan. You were created to create I.M.P.A.C.T.! (Ephesians 2:10)
What is standing in your way?
Your Beliefs. Yes. The #1 thing standing in your way to creating massive Brand I.M.P.A.C.T. are your beliefs. Specifically, at the core of this wrestling match are your beliefs about who you are, your beliefs about your experiences and your beliefs about your capabilities, and this my friend, is the #1 limit to an impactful Brand You.
Here are 3 Self-Belief influencers that I have seen holding back my Mentees (and that I have experienced myself – I tell you all about it here -> Redefining Her) from creating and achieving massive Brand Impact.
1. Your Interpretation Of Your Experiences.
Your perception of your experiences. Oftentimes our belief about who we are was formulated at an early age in our formative years when we are in discovery mode about who we are, the world and our place in it. The experiences we encounter has the power to create impressions about who we are, and if not guarded, these impressions can create foundational damage in how we perceive ourselves. Why is that? Because as children we are “great receptors and very bad interpreters,” and accordingly we lack the wisdom (garnered through experiences and knowledge sharing) to analyze these events or situations and put them in their correct context – which is separate and irrelevant to defining us at our core. Your perception and interpretation of the experience as a defining factor in who you are is the culprit to a mis-defined Brand You.
Know this - Your experiences are meant to inform you, not define you! Your experiences have nuggets that you will need along your journey of life and are not meant to paint the canvas of who you are.
2. Your Family Culture.
As a byproduct of our family culture, the dynamics, events, and belief system of our family or caretakers can influence our belief system. How we were groomed and the regulations or lack of regulations that we had to live by, the language used by our caretakers or our own caretaker’s fears or ignorance that was projected on us oftentimes subconsciously feeds our belief system and in turn cripples our progress and authenticity. You may have been thought to walk a specific line, follow a certain path regardless of your desires, etcetera, based on the knowledge and sometimes the fears of your caretakers.
Know this – As you work towards a self-belief that is more authentic to you, you may have to go through a process of unlearning and detoxing so that the true essence of who you are can be liberated.
3. Your Circumstances.
Often times circumstances such as physical limitations, poverty, homelessness, being in the midst of an abusive relationship, or other discouraging circumstances may erroneously influence or define your potential for greatness. While easier said than done, you have the power to decide the impact your discouraging circumstances will have on you and your beliefs about who you are.
Know this - It will take courage to reject the negative self-beliefs that your negative circumstances may project, but you can do hard things!
A powerful personal branding strategy is rooted in your beliefs. The challenge comes in auditing your experiences, family culture, or your circumstances to determine which of them are fueling your world posture and your definition of self. The magic comes in redefining those experiences to ensure that your personal brand you is defined authentically, is infused with your unique story, and built around your talents and skills. Your true definition is in who God created you to be.
