In last week’s Blog I introduced the concept of Boldfidence™—the courage to step in, the confidence to be authentically you. This powerful approach serves as a mantra for navigating your career with courage and authenticity. I've received a flood of questions from readers wanting to go deeper into this concept and accordingly this week’s article will focus on answering some of your questions. This week, we’re focusing on some of your most pressing questions to help you harness Boldfidence™ in your career journey in the event you are also wrestling with similar questions.

Q&A on Boldfidence™

Q1: How can I develop Boldfidence™ if I'm naturally introverted or shy?

Georgia: Boldfidence™ isn't about transforming into someone you're not; it's about embracing your authentic self with confidence. For introverts, this might mean preparing thoroughly before meetings or networking events, setting personal goals for interaction, and focusing on one-on-one conversations where deeper connections can be made. Boldness isn't about loudness—it's the quiet courage to be true to yourself, all while employing a career strategy that showcases your brilliance and the unique value you bring to any room.

Q2: I am considering a major career change but am having difficulty embracing my confidence. How can I find the courage and confidence to step in?

Georgia: Transitioning to a new career is undoubtedly daunting, but you don't need confidence to step in. It's normal to feel less confident when facing something new. You need the courage to take the first step. You don’t need the confidence in the thing your stepping into.  What you need is confidence in who you are authentically and what you are capable of. Focus on your authentic self and your inherent capabilities—the confidence in your new role will grow with experience and each achievement. Begin by defining what success looks like for you in this new role, set clear, achievable goals, and embrace the learning curve with confidence in your ability to adapt and thrive.

Q3: What if my workplace doesn't support my authentic self? How can I maintain Boldfidence™?

Georgia: Begin by identifying allies and mentors within or outside your organization who support your values and authenticity. Building a supportive network is crucial for staying true to yourself. Also, tactfully express your uniqueness, which can positively influence your company's culture. The following quote from Caroline Wanga, CEO of Essence Ventures (Essence Magazine) serves as an anchoring mantra for me - "Who you are is who you are. If you can't be who you are where you are, change where you are, not who you are." I am pretty sure she won’t mind if you leverage it.

Q4: How do I balance taking bold risks with the fear of failure?

Georgia: Embracing Boldfidence™ means recognizing that failure is a part of growth.  Stepping in is a risk, but so is staying comfortable. You can absolutely start small by setting incremental goals that stretch your comfort zone without leading to overwhelming risk. Reflect on each experience to extract lessons, regardless of the outcome, and gradually build your resilience and confidence.  But you must step in, its the only way you find out what is possible.

Q5: How can I sustain courage and confidence in the long run, especially during tough times?

Georgia: Sustaining courage and confidence involves continuous self-reflection, grit, and grace. To reflect, keep a journal of your successes and challenges, regularly revisit your career goals, and invest in your self-development. In the words of Cheryle Jackson, CEO of MY Own Doctor and founder of the Grit & Grace movement, "Grit + Grace… one won’t let you give up and the other makes it OK to let go." Yes, it is important to keep going, and not giving up on yourself and your dreams.  But also important is knowing when to let go. This balance will reinforce your boldness and confidence. It’s up to you to ensure that what you do is positive and fulfilling.
