Redefining Our Narrative
The most important story is the story we tell ourselves about who we are, our capabilities, our abilities, the world and our place in it. Oftentimes, our experiences in our formative years’ creates negative internal scripts of ourselves, not because the event itself was destructive – in some cases they definitely were, but because in our formative years we are very good receptors but not good interpreters. This narrative then becomes the frame and the lens through which we define ourselves and our potential – “I am not worthy”, “I am not good enough”, “I am not smart enough”, “I am unworthy of ….” You fill in the blank.
Our internal narrative then informs our thoughts which in turn fuels our habits, and our habits creates our reality. As humans, we are natural storytellers – stories create structure and patterns and in those patterns we find meaning.
The word Redefine per Webster means to define again or define differently.
How we define ourselves is a matter of perspective and we all have the power to redefine our perspective so that they empower us as opposed to limit us. This does not mean that we minimize or discount our struggles and our experiences. Instead, we must embrace them and evaluate them to find the gems in our experiences, keeping at the forefront of our minds that we are not our experiences. Our experiences are meant to inform us.
You cannot change your past. But you can change your perspective of your past by Redefining the narrative.
Redefining is a journey that starts with our mindset, and encompasses the following steps:
Renewing your mindset by Reframing your perspective of your story.
Embracing all of you (flaws and all).
Debunking that which does not serve you. Do not give credit to the negative opinions or labels directed at you.
Evacuating environments that do not serve you.
Forgiving others and forgiving yourself for past thoughts, actions and inactions.
Investing in you - you are worth it!
Nurturing your value by making yourself a priority and embracing activities that support you and brings you joy.
Imagine from a place of abundance believing that you have all that you need within you.
New meaning of your triggers (see Renewing your mindset above). Our wounds should inform us, not define us.
Extending Grace, to yourself and others, practicing Gratitude in the little things and all things, and commit to continuous Growth.
Happy REDEFINING.
Redefine your narrative and give yourself permission to authentically lead in your POWER in every space. The world is waiting on you.
